I've grabbed 2 foul balls in 2 consecutive games...tonight, it's Sam's turn...later, he ran into a buddy who was at the game with his Dad, who was celebrating his birthday. Like a champ, Sam gave him the ball. Happy Birthday! #SmellBaseball

The Bats have 4 more home games after tonight, but for me...it's the last game of the season.

CHA CF Adam Engel is well known in these parts from his time as a University of Louisville Cardinal, tonight marked the Slugger Field debut of UofL fireballer RHP Zack Burdi...it's always weird to see a guy in College at this level in a matter of 5 months or so...

The fact of the matter: he needs more time.

Mystery Rookie Card Game: I picked this 2007 Bowman Brandon Rice...not a very stellar selection.

Sam picked this 2003 Fleer Ultra Corey Thurman...well, I gotta admit, he beat me hands down on this one...

Doubleheader Game 2

There was only supposed to be one game today, the opener of a 3-game set against the visiting St. John's University Red Storm, but with nasty weather moving through the area this weekend, games were moved up accordingly. I joined Kei and Sam about halfway through the first game, but didn't keep score until Game 2.

Louisville won Game 1 cleanly, this game started a bit rough for LHP Drew Harrington, who was not his usual stud-like self...Drew allowed 3ER in the first, but the Cardinals came back in the 4th and 5th and looked like they had regained the upper hand. The Red Storm had other ideas, and came close to running the Cards out of options...the nether regions of Louisville's batting order kept runs on the board, and fireballer Zack Burdi brought the gas for a 4-out save.

Under the lights, RHP Zack Burdi singes his way to close the game...wasn't the best I've seen him, as he stumbles a bit and allows a hit, hits a batter, and allows one run (unearned), but he hit triple digits and did so effectively.

It's time to get back to the BASE...we had an unreasonably mild day in Louisville today, perfect for an early season based ball outing, and great for some looks at Cardinal good guys (including, but not limited to, LHP Drew Harrington, LHP Zack Burdi, and OF Corey Ray).

SIUE RHP Ryan Agnitsch, a side-armer, vs. LOU CF Logan Taylor

Zack Burdi (brother of UofL alumn Nick Burdi) sat on 98mph easily, striking out two of three batters swinging and handling the assist himself for the final out of the game. This is SIUE RF Dustin Woodcock.
