9/7/2015 Indianapolis Indians 2, Louisville Bats 3

Louisville Slugger Field, Louisville, KY
Game 2 of 2

We haz a sad, because it's the final game of the season.
The Bats were getting shut out until an unbelievable rally in the bottom of the 9th resulted in yet another walk-off win against Indianapolis to finish the season; this year courtesy of Brennan Boesch.

My scoresheets, using my pitch-counting method! Read about it HERE, download the scoresheets for free HERE!

David Holmberg pitches to Keon Broxton...we started the game in the Left Field warning track section, but moved up to the Upper Deck after a few innings to join our friends.

...that's better! My perennial favorite human garbage fire Chris Volstad vs. LOU IF Irving Falu
Volstad owned the Bats through 7IP, allowing 4 hits and striking out 6

Holmberg faces former hot prospect C Tony Sanchez

IND RHP Josh Wall, in relief, served up a decent inning to hold off the Bats (here, against IF Hernan Iribarren)...it was his relief, RHP Blake Wood, that would let it go and allow the Bats to bring a final victory to Louisville

Wall vs. SS Juan Perez, Venezuelan 2B Nick Benedetto (who came in for Falu in the 5th) on first base

LOU RHP reliever Jimmy Moran on the mound in the top of the 9th

In what has to be one of the most riotous rounds of the Mystery Rookie Card game I've ever played, 7 players were dealt among 3 teams...to make a long story short, my kids are doing their best to spread the word on the game, and our friends are playing it too. My initial pick was a Joey Votto RC, but I don't care much for him, so I traded for a couple of admirable replacements.

I really liked this 2006 Upper Deck NP Kenji Johjima, but really had my eye on another card...

...that card being this gorgeous 2005 Bowman FY Jair Jurrjens. Joey Votto's value is a bit higher in these parts, so I was able to get both cards for him, and we all went home happy.
As for the other transactions, I didn't keep track of them.

7/8/2015 Indianapolis Indians 2, Louisville Bats 3

Louisville Slugger Field, Louisville, KY
Game 2 of 3

My very first look at Robert Stephenson. He has amazing stuff, doesn't need any fancy pitches to fool batters, and once he gets his command worked out, he'll be a very elite pitcher...someday. In his second start for Louisville, he faces...OH GAWD, NO, NOOOOO IT'S CHRIS VOLSTAD!

My scoresheets, using my pitch-counting method! Read about it HERE, download the scoresheets for free HERE!

Stephenson faces former Padres prospect and all-around great name champion, OF Jaff Decker

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, it's Brent Morel, playing 3B for the Indians and here, about to fly out at Stephenson's hands

Hide your kids, hide your wife...Chris Volstad, the Beast of the Abyss, pitches to 2B Irving Falu

Louisville's Hero of the Month, RF Brennan Boesch, singles to right center field...
...former Bats stalwart, IF Kristopher Negron (who's back in LOU to stay, apparently) races to third, and would eventually score on an error committed by IND 2B Alen Hanson

Clute, TX native RHP Brad Lincoln is back with the Pirates org after a couple of years with Toronto and Philadelphia...he's been a reliever since Pittsburgh traded him to Toronto for Eric Kratz; here he faces swtich-hitting LOU C Ramon Cabrera
...pretty much every pitcher tonight has the "legs up" at the end of their delivery, so you could say there were a lot of legs in the air tonight...

One guy who isn't leaving his legs in the air for nobody is RHP Jumbo Diaz, still looking rather svelte, striking out IND 1B John Bowker to end the 8th inning...on his way to a 4-out save for the Bats

My Mystery Rookie Card pick for the night...well, it's not really worth its weight in gold, but the sticker says $12 and I am just fine with that.

6/29/2015 Syracuse Chiefs 5, Louisville Bats 0

Louisville Slugger Field, Louisville, KY
Game 1 of 3

The massive construction project that has gripped downtown for nearly a couple of years has begun to make its mark on the riverfront skyline...what you see out there is the new Ohio River bridge in process, what you hear out there (if you were here) is the incessant sound of piledrivers clanging away...all this and Slugger Field can't get a new scoreboard...

But, I digress...the Chiefs came, the Chiefs shut out the Bats, and HEY, whaddya know, it's Jose Valverde!!

My scoresheets, using my pitch-counting method! Read about it HERE, download the scoresheets for free HERE!

LOU RHP Keyvius Sampson faces SYR 1B Mario Lisson

LOU RF Brennan Boesch singles off SYR RHP A.J. Cole.

Boesch is back in Louisville after 32 games in Cincinnati; Cole leaves the game after 2 innings.

SYR LHP Matt Grace in relief faces LOU 2B Irving Falu

One of my early baseball follows on twitter is in LOU this season...RHP Collin Balester (here he's pitching to SYR C Dan Butler)

For the Mystery Rookie Card game, my pick was more typical than not...here's the story of Randy Frye, looked pretty good but his shimmer just died...
4th round pick by the Seattle Mariners in 2002...never played in the majors, never played above single A ball...he didn't play at all in 2004 due to injuries, which made his chances of doing any better beyond his recovery quite slim.

Want a feel good story? That's not happening today. How about a feel better story?
My daughter pulled this 2013 Panini Prizm Shelby Miller. OK, do you feel better now?
