9/7/2015 Indianapolis Indians 2, Louisville Bats 3

Louisville Slugger Field, Louisville, KY
Game 2 of 2

We haz a sad, because it's the final game of the season.
The Bats were getting shut out until an unbelievable rally in the bottom of the 9th resulted in yet another walk-off win against Indianapolis to finish the season; this year courtesy of Brennan Boesch.

David Holmberg pitches to Keon Broxton...we started the game in the Left Field warning track section, but moved up to the Upper Deck after a few innings to join our friends.

...that's better! My perennial favorite human garbage fire Chris Volstad vs. LOU IF Irving Falu
Volstad owned the Bats through 7IP, allowing 4 hits and striking out 6

Holmberg faces former hot prospect C Tony Sanchez

IND RHP Josh Wall, in relief, served up a decent inning to hold off the Bats (here, against IF Hernan Iribarren)...it was his relief, RHP Blake Wood, that would let it go and allow the Bats to bring a final victory to Louisville

Wall vs. SS Juan Perez, Venezuelan 2B Nick Benedetto (who came in for Falu in the 5th) on first base

LOU RHP reliever Jimmy Moran on the mound in the top of the 9th

In what has to be one of the most riotous rounds of the Mystery Rookie Card game I've ever played, 7 players were dealt among 3 teams...to make a long story short, my kids are doing their best to spread the word on the game, and our friends are playing it too. My initial pick was a Joey Votto RC, but I don't care much for him, so I traded for a couple of admirable replacements.

I really liked this 2006 Upper Deck NP Kenji Johjima, but really had my eye on another card...

...that card being this gorgeous 2005 Bowman FY Jair Jurrjens. Joey Votto's value is a bit higher in these parts, so I was able to get both cards for him, and we all went home happy.
As for the other transactions, I didn't keep track of them.

9/5/2015 Columbus Clippers 7, Louisville Bats 4

Louisville Slugger Field, Louisville, KY
Game 2 of 2

He wasn't the only one, but Minor League journeyman Zach Walters owned the Bats today, with 2 HR (back-to-back), 4 RBI, and good grief...

My scoresheets, using my pitch-counting method! Read about it HERE, download the scoresheets for free HERE!

COL RHP Jarrett Grube on the mound, LOU 2B Irving Falu at the plate

LOU RHP Dylan Axelrod faces Anthony Gallas...
...wait, WHAT??
...is Gallas wearing a balaclava...or is that a...beard???

Yes, it's a beard. That's the most shag carpet-like beard I've seen on a ball player in years, enough depth for 3 Dallas Keuchel beards, I think
Gallas also homered today...

RHP Donovan Hand in relief after Axelrod was knocked out following 3 innings and 5 earned runs (3 of them from Walters' taters), COL RF Michael Choice

LHP Tony Cingrani, a reliever now, is about to strike out Gallas

In the Mystery Rookie Card game, I happened to select perennial International League stalwart Alexi Casilla.
Surprisingly, he's played nearly as many games in MLB (578) as he's played in the Minor Leagues (619)...throughout his 13 season career, Casilla has made appearances at Louisville Slugger Field as a Rochester Red Wing (2007-2009), a Norfolk Tide (2014), and this season, he's played with both the Durham Bulls and the Buffalo Bisons. Of course, I remember Casilla most for his time with the Twins, and this game in particular.
